The Auburn Beautification Commission, Inc. is currently seeking gardens for their Second Annual Summer Garden Tour. ABC is looking for cottage gardens, perennial or vegetable gardens, water or rock gardens. Do you, or do you know of others who might be willing to open their garden to the public on Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 1 – 4 PM?

Creating a Better First Impression

Image is everything. The way you present yourself has a profound impact on one’s success, and this hold true for a community as well. People form their first impression of a community at its “Gateways”; that is, the entrances to the city, on major routes through town, and approaches to its downtown and major centers of activity. The degree to which a community takes care of its gateways speaks volumes to visitor and potential investors about the values of the residents, businesses and government.

The Auburn Beautification Commission has taken on the task of improving our community’s image and directing our energies and resources into making the City of Auburn a place of pride. In the upcoming months, the ABC will propose a plan to the Auburn City Council and the community to support their initiative to create 3 new gateway signs. The upgraded signs will be strategically located at the city’s major gateway points identified by the City of Auburn’s Comprehensive Plan. The new look will communicate a vibrant, prosperous community where people will want to visit, shop, and businesses will thrive. Ultimately, it is the goal of the ABC to create a better first impression as we welcome visitors and redirect those who are just passing through, to slow down and enjoy the scenery!

Extreme Gateway Makeover

An up and coming project for the Spring of 2012 will be an Extreme Gateway Makeover for the badly weathered “Welcome to Auburn” signs located at several different gateway points to the City. The Auburn Beautification Commission will partner with the City of Auburn Department of Public Works to remove, redesign, rebuild and reinstall the new signs over the next several months. It is the goal of the ABC to select an eye-catching, yet classic style that will complement our historic neighborhoods and the beauty of the Finger Lakes Region. Auburn is History’s Hometown, and nothing says it better than a “welcome to our city” sign that we can be proud of.

ABC Sponsors Search for Holiday Tree

The ABC has been granted the duty of selecting the City’s Holiday Tree that is on display in the center of Downtown Auburn. Each year, the City Partners with the Downtown BID to host the Annual Holiday Parade and Family Fun Day. The tree lighting ceremony, immediately following the parade attracts hundreds of spectators and is the symbolic kickoff to the Holiday Season.

The ABC is currently looking for the “perfect tree”. If you think you have that perfect tree, please contact us! The ABC is accepting nominations now through November 10th.

Commission, Volunteers Team to Clean Playground

The Auburn Beautification Commission (ABC) and Welch Allyn partnered together to provide community service to a local playground. The initiative is part of the company’s annual Beacon of Quality event, a designated date when local facilities are closed for the day to honor employees and give back to the community. First ABC “Adopt-A-Spot” – the Gazebo at City Hall

Auburn Beautification Commission is proud to announce our first “Adopt-A-Spot” location. It’s the Gazebo, located across the street from Auburn City Hall and next to the historic Seward House. Dickman Farms Greenhouse & Garden Center approached ABC with interest in beautifying the area with coordinated plantings. The stunning result is shown below.
