Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 07:28PM Auburn Beautification Commission is proud to announce our first "Adopt-A-Spot" location. It's the Gazebo, located across the street from Auburn City Hall and next to the historic Seward House. Dickman Farms Greenhouse & Garden Center approached ABC with interest in beautifying the area with coordinated plantings. The stunning result is shown below.

Unveiling
Audrey Iwanicki
Artist acknowledges those who helped her with project.
Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 09:43PM Based upon the theme “Auburn, History's Hometown”, the Auburn Beautification Commission sought an interpretive sculpture. Each submission was evaluated on the adaptation, vision and design of the piece, and how the scale and size fit into the chosen location.

Ms. Iwanicki's sculpture will be unveiled on Founders Day, Saturday, June 12, at 3:00 p.m. on the Exchange Street Mall, where it will remain on display for one year. The piece was influenced by Theodore Case and his work to develop sound on film, highlighting information about Auburn’s history in a creative and artistic manner. Founders Day celebrates Auburn as “The Birthplace of Talking Movies” this year.
Audrey Iwanicki majored in anthropology and art in college, and began taking sculpting classes while living in Boston several years ago. She worked in set design and construction in Newport, Rhode Island, and created a sculpture for the Ludovico Sculpture trail in Seneca Falls, where she learned about welding. She's currently focused on setting up a metal shop.
Come join the fun on Founders Day! Click on the link and you'll find everything you need to know about the events that are planned. Don't miss actress Sigourney Weaver's address on the steps of City Hall and remarks by Ted Case's grandson.
We will update the blog with photos from the sculpture unveiling on Saturday. Stay tuned!
Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 09:11PM This weekend over 1,200 American flags will wave over the waters of Hoopes Pond as a tribute to our military veterans. Community members purchased flags in honor of a friend or family member who served in the armed forces.
It is worth the walk or ride over to the park to experience this spectacle. You will see why mention of the Field of Hopes and Dreams belongs in the Auburn Beautification Commission blog. Be prepared to feel it as well as see it. You'll know what I mean.
