Auburn Beautification Commission Announces Winner!

Interpretive sculpture by Audrey Iwanicki to be unveiled on Founders Day.

Based upon the theme “Auburn, History’s Hometown”, the Auburn Beautification Commission sought an interpretive sculpture. Each submission was evaluated on the adaptation, vision and design of the piece, and how the scale and size fit into the chosen location.

Ms. Iwanicki’s sculpture will be unveiled on Founder’s Day, Saturday, June 12, at 3:00 p.m. on the Exchange Street Mall, where it will remain on display for one year. The piece was influenced by   Theodore Case and his work to develop sound on film, highlighting information about Auburn’s history in a creative and artistic manner. This year, Founder’s Day celebrates Auburn as “The Birthplace of Talking Movies.”

Audrey Iwanicki majored in anthropology and art in college, and began taking sculpting classes while living in Boston several years ago. She worked in set design and construction in Newport, Rhode Island, and created a sculpture for the Ludovico Sculpture trail in Seneca Falls, where she learned about welding. She’s currently focused on setting up a metal shop.

The ABC will host a second “Art Around Auburn” interpreted sculpture competition in the Spring of 2011. Stay tuned for more details and entry information.
